About TD Builders
Specialists in repointing, restoration and wall building services, based in Attenborough.
TD Builders is Tom, working out of Attenborough, between Beeston and Long Eaton. The work is brickwork: repointing, garden and boundary walls, repairs and alterations, extension brickwork, porches, and restoration on older properties.
Until now there has been no website. Every job has come from a recommendation, from the Google profile, or from someone walking past a wall and asking who did it. Thirty people have taken the trouble to write a review, and all thirty gave five stars.
Read enough of those reviews together and the same three things keep coming up, and none of them are about bricklaying. He turns up on the day he said. He answers his phone and tells you what is happening. He clears up before he goes. The brickwork is what he is being paid for, but those are the things people write about afterwards.
The fourth thing is who is writing. Two of the reviews are from people in the trade: one from a builder who now brings Tom in on his own projects, one from a site where he was described as the best bricklayer they had had on it. That is a harder crowd to please than a homeowner, because they know what to look at.
How the work usually goes
Ring or send some details and he will come and look at the job. Then you get a price for it. Reviews mention quotes coming back quickly and the work being done to the figure that was agreed.
Jobs run from half a day to a couple of months. A failed lintel or one bricked-up doorway is as much a proper job as the brickwork on a two storey extension, and several of the reviews here are for exactly that kind of small work.
The awkward bit about brickwork
Most brickwork faults are not really faults with the bricks. A leaning garden wall is usually a footing problem. Brick faces breaking up under a repointed wall are usually a mortar problem, caused by the last repair. A lintel dropping is a timber problem. Fixing what you can see, without fixing what caused it, means doing it twice.
That is most of what there is to say. The rest is on the reviews page, in other people's words.
Questions people ask
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Attenborough and work across Beeston, Chilwell, Toton, Bramcote, Stapleford, Long Eaton and the rest of the Nottingham area. If you are just outside that, ring and ask.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. A lot of the work is a single lintel, one bricked-up doorway or one elevation of pointing. Customers have written specifically about being glad to find someone who would take a smaller job on.
How does pricing work?
We come and look at the job, then give you a price for it. Reviews mention quotes coming back quickly and the work being done to the figure that was agreed.
Why does the type of mortar matter?
Because a hard modern cement mix on a soft old wall traps moisture in the brick, and the brick face breaks up over the following winters. On older properties we use lime mortar so the wall can dry out through the joint the way it was built to.
Will new brickwork match the existing house?
Matching is most of the job on a repair or an extension. That means the brick, the bond, the mortar colour and the joint profile. Where a brick is no longer made we look for a reclaimed match.
Do you work with other trades?
Yes. We work as the bricklaying gang on other people's builds, and we bring in a roofer, a joiner or a structural engineer where a job needs one.
